I was always under the impression that flux (same as in any closed loop system) will muck things up. R22, I braze 99.99999999% of the time. I do braze fittings and line sets if buried in walls. If you think about it, where do we most often see leaks?

Always use a brush to apply a thin coating of flux and don't flux to the end of the tube.
